Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Tuesday January 1
Tuesday January 1
LET’S GET SERIOUS
Musselburgh 1.05
There are sure to be many sore heads at Musselburgh today after last night’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. But let’s hope trainer James Ewart’s isn’t one of them because it’s a big day for the yard, with two of his best horses on show. Lord Wishes should go well in the 3m handicap hurdle at 1.40, but my marginal preference is for this lightly-raced six-year-old, who impressed when winning on his chasing debut at Doncaster a month ago. It was his first run for Ewart after he was acquired from the Nicky Henderson stable for just £8,000 -- a surprisingly meagre figure considering his fine form and progressive profile. Today he must carry top weight on an early venture into handicap company, but his mark of 136 is not too prohibitive and he’s sure to enjoy track, trip and ground.
